Asking for help can be hard.

We learn how to ask for it when we're young, but then some of us get out of practice and forget how to do it, or we decide we should no longer need it. But as long as we're human, living among one another in complex societies, we'll have to depend on others to survive and thrive. It's okay to be the one who needs help now.

About

Through tears... wisdom

I am the mother of two boys (one typically developing and one non-typically developing) and a stepmother of two. I had postpartum depression and anxiety in 2005, after the birth of my first son. In 2006, I co-founded Brooklyn PPD Support, where I led peer support groups and offered individual counseling and referrals for treatment to pregnant and postpartum women for a decade. I have made numerous media appearances (WNYC/NPR, CBS local news, print interviews), and was honored to receive the first Community of Caring Award from the Postpartum Resource Center of NY in 2013. In 2022 I became a certified perinatal mental health therapist through Postpartum Support International. I am also trained in EMDR and PACT (Stan Tatkin's Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy). For me, being a therapist is a lot like being a parent. I don't have all the answers and I never will. In both roles, I'm committed to showing up every day with the interest and the desire to be focused, informed, and genuine. I will always be learning and fine-tuning my approach to therapy. As an old neighbor in Brooklyn used to say, "We're never done, are we?"
